Big Draw 2018

Play

Young people from schools across the county got creative at the University of Lincoln’s three day Big Draw Celebration of Drawing.

The event took place on the 15th/16th/17th of October 2018, pupils from Secondary Academies, and Primary Schools came together under the Big Draw’s theme of ‘Play’ as part of the Big Draw’s annual National Festival of Drawing which encourages people of all ages to rediscover the joy of drawing and express themselves creatively.

Hosted by The School of Design this year’s event featured activities run by staff from across The College of Arts. Our Animation, Architecture, Music, Lens Media, Museum and Exhibition Design, Graphics, BA Hons Programs, and MA Design program were all represented at the event. As ever our brilliant Technical Staff made a huge contribution too, building equipment and running some activities.

90 young students from 6 Primary and 3 Secondary Academies attended.

Our younger visitors participated in a range of workshops featuring Computer Animation, Kinetic Bicycle Drawing (using bicycles kindly donated by Lincolnshire Police), Drawing and Storytelling, and ‘Body Snap’ (think ‘Twister’ on a wall)!

We challenged our visitors from Secondary Academies with a range of activities designed to challenge their creative thinking:  These were 3D Drawing and Reflective Practice with Lego,  16mm Animation Drawing directly onto film with a range of markers, and ‘Draw to Score’ (Interpreting live music performance through drawing and creating graphic scores).

The emphasis is firmly on creating a fun day and a positive experience of the University for young people.
